Welcome to the Office of Academic and Student Affairs. AVC is well known for its outstanding education and learning experiences within a tightly-knit, supportive community. We take great pride in combining the most advanced technologies with the basic principles of individual student attention and respect to create a positive and interactive learning environment. At AVC we know each of our students by name.
The Atlantic Veterinary College is fully accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Medical Association, and is recognized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Our well regarded graduates are eligible for licensure in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Our graduates consistently achieve high success rates in licensing examinations and have excellent employment opportunities worldwide.
AVC’s DVM program is four years. Emphasis during the first year is on form and function of normal animals. Second year introduces students to disease processes, agents, and treatments, as well as clinical applications. Third year focuses on clinical studies of large and small animals, and expands on herd-health principles for farmed species including aquatic species. In the fourth year, courses consist of core and elective clinical rotations.
Students have more than 50 clinical rotations to chose from — including traditional rotations in large and small-animal medicine and surgery, specialized experiences with dairy, beef, or aquaculture farms, and advanced rotations in acupuncture, cardiology, wildlife, and fish pathology.
Please feel welcome to call or visit us at the Academic and Student Affairs Office for more information on AVC's DVM program.
