September 2011

Saturday, September 24, will be a big day at AVC and UPEI! From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., AVC will host its 23rd annual Open House. Organized and run by AVC students, this free family event will include many fun and educational activities. Learn about different dog breeds during the Parade of Dog Breeds; see some unusual animals at the mini-zoo; learn to gown and glove for surgery; view a painted horse and cow, and much more. Children can bring their favourite stuffed toys for a check-up and treatment at the Teddy Bear Clinic. There will be face painting, balloons, demonstrations and lots of exhibits!

Also at AVC, the UPEI Faculty of Science will hold its popular Showcase on Science expo, and from 11 a.m. -2 p.m., the UPEI Alumni Association will hold a free barbeque and games.

At 1:30 p.m., Dr. Abd-El-Aziz will be formally installed as UPEI’s sixth President and Vice-Chancellor in a ceremony at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will also include the recognition of UPEI’s 2011 Founders and the awarding of AVC’s 2011 Hon. Eugene Whelan Green Hat Award.

AVC Open House is one of the largest open houses in Atlantic Canada and is part of UPEI's Celebrate UPEI! weekend.
