Issue:
December 2011

Would you know what to do if a wound on your dog's leg was bleeding badly? Dr. Kathy Ling, AVC Community Practice veterinarian, will give a workshop called “Basic First Aid for Your Pet” on Tuesday, January 31, in The McCain Foundation Learning Commons, Room 287N, from 7-8:30 p.m. Dr. Ling will present basic information about recognizing and caring for emergencies and injuries in dogs and cats. Topics will include primary assessment, handling an injured pet, bleeding, shock, common toxins, and recognizing signs of pain and distress. Participants are asked to bring a stuffed animal to practice on. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome! This event is part of AVC’s Community Workshop Series, which won a silver medal from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education in 2011 for Best Community Outreach Initiative.
