Upcoming AVC Community Workshop focuses on weight problems in pets

Issue:
December 2012

Drs Kathy Ling and Anne Marie Carey, AVC Community Practice Clinic, will give a community workshop entitled “Overweight Pets: An expanding problem” on Tuesday, January 29, from 7-8:30 p.m., in AVC Lecture Theatre A.

Overweight or obese pets run the risk of developing serious health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, heart and respiratory disease, high blood pressure, or kidney disease. They tend to be less energetic and playful, and their lives are often shortened. How do you know if your pet is overweight or obese? What are the causes and associated risk factors of weight problems in our pets? How do you help your beloved pet lose weight? These are just some of the topics that will be discussed during the workshop.

This event is part of AVC’s award-winning community workshop series and is sponsored by AVC Friends and Family, the College’s community-based volunteer organization. Donations to AVC Friends and Family will be gratefully accepted. For information, contact (902) 566-0589.
