Who is Dr. Tim Ogilvie?
Dr. Tim Ogilvie is the past Dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College and the founder of AVC Vet Camp. It was Dr. Ogilvie's dream to give aspiring veterinarians a window into the day-to-day life of a veterinarian.

Who is eligible to apply?
Junior high students who are entering grades 7, 8, and 9 in the fall of 2012 are eligible for one of two Junior Vet Camps. Students entering grades 10, 11, and 12 in the fall of 2012 are eligible for one of two Senior Vet Camps.

What is the application process?

Applications can be completed online by clicking here.  Please click here to access the pdf application form which can be printed, filled in and mailed. Please Note: Applications will not be processed if received after the deadline date (March 9, 2012) or if the application form is incomplete. Only one application per individual will be accepted. We take great care to ensure all applications are processed accurately and confidentially.  Applications will not be accepted by phone or fax.  If applying online, after pressing the "submit" button, a message will appear, confirming that your application has been received.  If applying by mail, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.

What is the application deadline?
All applications are due on or before Friday, March  9, 2012. Applications received after this deadline will not be processed.

What is the fee?
The total cost of AVC Vet Camp is $375.00 CDN. Payment is not required until campers have been chosen and their attendance confirmed.

What is included in the camp fee?
Camp fees cover tuition for AVC Vet Camp, educational materials, daily nutrition breaks and lunches, special activities and camp scrub tops. The fee does not include overnight accommodations.

What is the selection process?
AVC Vet Camp is not a competitive program.  To ensure a fair and equitable process, selection is done by lottery as we receive more applications than we have seats available.

When will I find out if I have been selected?
The lottery draw will take place within a couple of business days after the application deadline. We will send a letter by email to each person who applied, explaining whether or not his or her name was selected for camp, by the first week of April 2012.  Selection information will not be given over the phone.

How many campers are chosen for each week?
To ensure the best experience possible, we keep our numbers small so we choose only 50 campers to attend each week.

Is there a Vet Camp waiting list?
When the lottery is complete for each week of camp, the remaining names are put into a draw to create a waiting list. Please note: only those who applied by the deadline date are eligible for the waiting list.

  • March 9                    Deadline for applications
  • First week of April     Notification sent by email
  • April 13                     Confirmation of attendance due
